Introducing
Topista Tibenderana

Topista Tibenderana and her family are the first Borrmeister Architects will support in building a family water tank.

Topista is a strong and resilient elderly woman who lives with her family in a remote village, about half a kilometre from the nearest feeder road. This means all construction materials—sand, cement, and welded mesh—must be carried by hand, often balanced on their heads. It’s a big task, but with determination and teamwork, they’re ready to make it happen!

In the photo to the right, you’ll see a blue basin container—that’s where the water tank will be built. This new tank will be truly life-changing.

Clean water will bring safety, health, and hope to Topista’s family—right where it’s needed most.

Topista and her granddaughter collect water from nearby rock catchments, but when these dry up, they must walk 4kms to a seasonal stream with salty, mineral-heavy water. During long dry spells, they travel 7kms to access water from the River Kagera.

Topista smiles as she signs the funding agreement between her family and Borrmeister Architects—a meaningful step toward bringing safe, clean water to her home.

Topista signs the contract agreement with Borrmeister Architects and receives building supplies, thoughtfully organised by the Centre for Community Solidarity—marking the exciting start of her family’s water tank project.

Thanks to incredible teamwork, CCS, and support, Topista Tibenderana, her family and their community now have reliable access to clean, safe water all year round. Ka pai, team - what a fantastic milestone!
