Clarkville House

Modern country house and separate ‘work-from-home’ office catering for a large, growing family on an expansive site in the Canterbury Plains. The distinctive roof undulations capture the sun at different times of the day with the views to the peaks of the Southern Alps also accentuated by the roof folds. Various court yards including a swimming pool provide ample options for outdoor living as well as a strong connection to the native wetland which is in the process of restoration on site. Providing anchoring to the land is a large concrete wall running the length of the building performing as a thermal mass and also as a textural surface inside and out. Solar heating and rainwater collection are also proposed for optimal off-grid living.
